DANA COMBS | Email Dana
LAC
Hello, my name is Dana Combs. I am a Temporary Licensed Associate Counselor, pending full licensure. I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2023 with my master’s in clinical Mental Health Counseling and my LPN in 2014 from College of DuPage in Glen Elyn IL. I have worked as a Mental Health Nurse with diverse populations of patients within ICE detention centers from 2019 to present. As a therapist I have experience working with patients of all ages with varying backgrounds with a focus on adolescents in group and individual settings who were dealing with eating disorders, PTSD, depression, personality disorders, anxiety, suicidality, psychosis, and many other issues.
I am trained in DBT, CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy and have also studied psychoanalytical/psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, trauma informed therapy, and ACT. I am a culturally competent therapist who believes in treating patients where they are. With that in mind, I use eclectic therapy via BASIC ID, as every person is a unique individual with varying needs, wants, and abilities. I help patients find strength from within by using Mindfulness, gratitude, and positive affirmations within the DBT context. I also help patients with stress, anxiety, and phobias by helping them to recognize faulty thinking patterns so that may confront and challenge those intrusive thoughts with concepts derived from CBT. My training also includes a spiritual approach to life’s problems which encompasses whatever higher power one subscribes to. Using one’s spirituality I help patients to derive energy and strength from those beliefs to use in their current situations.
I have an “open book” practice when it comes to my treatment room. I believe in being open, honest and “real.” We will cry together, laugh together, and I will help you process through the anger together. I truly believe therapy is whatever you want it to be, that you will get out what you put in, which is why I love homework and hand-outs. Whatever your need is, wherever you are in life it is my divine purpose to bring you to it so that we can work through it. Together. So, bring your blanket, your favorite pillow or just yourself. Mi casa e Su casa. Welcome home!
